In Romans chapter 1 to 7 Paul has depicts sin to man as a monster on the loose – e.g.
Rom 7:11 For sin, taking advantage of the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me.
Rom 7:18 For I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh. For I want to do the good, but I cannot do it 19 For I do not do the good I want, but I do the very evil I do not want!(NET)
Rom 7:24: O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this
body of death?
Sound hopeless doesn’t it? – For those of us who have tried severally to overcome sin but find ourselves falling again and again into sin, Romans chapter 8:1 comes with a great sigh of relief.
– There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
Verse 8: that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
What it means to “walk or live in the Spirit”
1. A life marked by obedience to the Holy Spirit, not by obedience to
the flesh.
2. The course, direction and progress of your life is directed by the
Holy Spirit as a continuous and progressive process
3. In general it’s a life of disciplined commitment to prayer and study
of the word with obedience to the word
Life in the flesh on the flip side means all the horrible sinful and ungodly nuances mentioned in Romans 8:6-15 and Galatians 5:19-21
If you constantly refuse to obey the flesh, the Holy Spirit will enable you to obey The Spirit as a lifestyle but it’s a process – start now – God bless
